WASHINGTON, DC – In anticipation of the passage of H.R.1734, the McKinley Coal Ash bill, in the House of Representatives today, LCV Legislative Associate Zach Drennen issued the following statement:
“The McKinley bill marks yet another giveaway to polluters by the radical leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation removes the few key environmental protections in the EPA’s final coal ash rule and would allow polluters to go back to irresponsibly storing and dumping coal ash, a toxic by-product of burning coal that contains pollutants like mercury, lead, and arsenic. Coal ash ponds are a national public health hazard, and we commend the Obama Administration for threatening to veto this bill.”
