Washington, D.C.— In response to today’s speech by President Biden a year after the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) released the following statement from Deputy Legislative Director Madeleine Foote:
“President Biden’s partnership with local leaders to deploy resources and clean up the damage from last year’s train derailment in East Palestine has been critical to helping the impacted community move forward. Yet, extremist MAGA Republicans, from the former president to partisan Supreme Court justices and members of Congress, continue to prioritize the profits of Big Polluters by launching relentless attacks on EPA’s authority to protect communities and prevent similar disasters in the future. We thank President Biden for his leadership and urge the administration to continue to hold Norfolk Southern accountable, improve rail safety, implement strong safeguards against hazardous chemicals, and ensure every community has access to clean air and clean water, especially environmental justice communities who are disproportionately impacted by Big Polluters and special interests.”
