WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the release of the proposed Bureau of Land Management rules on methane emissions from oil and gas drilling on federal lands, LCV Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote issued the following statement:
“We are grateful that Secretary Jewell and President Obama have proposed these important standards, which are another key piece of the puzzle to reduce dangerous methane pollution that is contributing to the climate crisis. Beyond their climate implications, these regulations will begin to minimize waste of a valuable energy resource, ensuring that taxpayers are compensated for use of our public lands, as well as reduce accompanying toxic air pollutants that are harming local communities. Today’s proposal is a win all around: for our environment, public health, taxpayers, and our energy security. Once again the Obama administration has shown leadership in the fight against climate change, and we urge them to quickly finalize the strongest possible safeguards for our public lands.”
