WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the cloture vote on the Senate energy bill LCV’s Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote issued the following statement:
“We stand with the people of Flint and communities across the country suffering from similar health crises. It is simply mindboggling that certain members of the Senate are standing in the way of providing urgent relief to Flint’s families. Our nation can never make up for the permanent damage done to an entire community, and unfortunately, too many communities in our country suffer daily from illnesses caused by a lack of funding and commitment to investing in our water infrastructure. We applaud Senators Stabenow and Peters for their leadership and those who stood in solidarity with Flint today. It’s time for Congress to step up for the people of Flint and all those whose access to clean, safe water has been jeopardized by setting aside partisan differences to provide the relief Flint desperately needs and then addressing the severe lack of investment in our infrastructure that is resulting in egregious harm to our families, especially to those most vulnerable – the infants, children, pregnant women, and marginalized communities.”
