LCV Statement on Senate Vote to Override Clean Water Rule CRA Veto

Jan 21, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In response to the Senate vote to override President Obama’s veto of the Clean Water Rule Congressional Review Act “Resolution of Disapproval,” LCV President Gene Karpinski issued the following statement:

“Republican Senate leadership once again demonstrated their willingness to put the interests of big polluters ahead of drinking water protections for one in three Americans. Time and again they ignore the fact that the Clean Water Rule enjoys overwhelming public support because people understand its importance to protecting the waterways our children and grandchildren drink, swim, and play in. It is clearly long past time for Republican leadership to move on from these relentless attacks on these clean water safeguards. They would serve their constituents far better by focusing on the issues that are leading to the water crises like we have seen in Flint, Michigan and Toledo, Ohio.”
