Washington DC— In response to the Senate passing the Water Resources and Development Act, LCV Legislative Representative Madeleine Foote issued the following statement:

“We commend the Senate for acting to provide much-needed financial relief for the people of Flint, Michigan, who for far too long have been denied the basic human right of clean water. With too many communities across the country facing similar water pollution problems, it is fortunate that this legislation also includes important updates to our drinking water programs and investment in our water infrastructure systems nationwide to help prevent more disasters like this in the future. We thank all the Senators who voted for clean water today and urge the House to quickly pass a package that includes aid for Flint and these critical drinking water provisions to ensure that no parent has to worry that the water coming from their tap is poisoning their family.”
