Washington, D.C. — Following the Senate vote to confirm Neomi Rao to the D.C. Circuit Court, the League of Conservation Voters released the following statement from Judiciary Program Director Ben Driscoll:
“The Senate’s confirmation of Neomi Rao puts public health and the environment at risk, and Senators who voted for her have endorsed the immeasurable harm she will cause with her lifetime seat on the bench.
“We opposed Neomi Rao’s nomination because of her long record opposing environmental and other public protections as unnecessary burdens on corporate freedom. During Rao’s tenure in the Trump administration, she led efforts to roll back fundamental protections and misuse the regulatory review process for partisan political purposes, including releasing more methane and toxic mercury into our air. In addition, Rao’s writings on sexual assault, race, and LGBTQ equality are offensive, and should have been disqualifying for a nomination to a lifetime position on one of the most important federal courts.”
