Washington D.C. – LCV Victory Fund congratulates Sean Casten and Lauren Underwood on their wins in Illinois’ 6th and 14th Congressional districts. LCV Victory Fund invested nearly $660,000 in digital advertising in their districts to get out the vote and expose their opponents’ cozy relationships with corporate polluters.

“Tonight, Illinois elected champions for climate action and public health,” said Gene Karpinski, LCV President. “We look forward to their leadership as we work together to ensure that every family has access to safe drinking water and continue to build Illinois’ clean energy future.”

In the 6th district, LCV Victory Fund ran a comprehensive digital campaign that highlighted incumbent Peter Roskam’s ties to corporate polluters and record of voting in lock step with the Trump administration’s anti-environment agenda.

In the 14th district, LCV Victory Fund ran a digital ad that called out incumbent Randy Hultgren’s record of voting to allow more pollution into our air and to remove protections for people with preexisting conditions. We also partnered with Priorities USA Action on digital ads to get out the vote for Underwood.

Environmental donors contributed nearly $325,000 to Illinois candidates, including over $100,000 to Casten’s campaign, via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund, NextGen America and the NRDC Action Fund PAC that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a record $21 million for the 2018 cycle.

LCV Action Fund endorsed Casten and Underwood because of their backgrounds in public health, clean energy and commitments to climate action. LCV Action Fund also endorsed Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, Brendan Kelly and Betsy Dirksen Londrigan.
