Hart Research released the results of a new survey on the best climate and clean energy economy-related messages tied to the presidential race in seven key battleground states.
Results from the survey revealed:
- Voters are swayed by learning about Trump’s harmful record on climate and energy issues, which heightens voters’ sense that Trump is “dangerous.”
- The impact on voters learning that former President Trump’s policies on issues they care about–like energy costs, clean air and water–will raise their costs and harm them directly, and that job losses could occur as a result of his policies.
- Voters dislike that Trump prioritizes his personal interests over future generations, and that he would let corporate polluters poison communities with toxic chemicals.
- The most powerful messaging includes how Trump sides with Big Oil billionaires over regular working people and puts clean air and water at risk. Trump’s own promise to be a “dictator for a day” to roll back environmental protections and that he plans to repeal clean energy investments, leading to layoffs and hurting local communities, expose the harmful impact of his self-interest and alliance with Big Oil.
The results are based on an online survey conducted by Hart Research of 1,921 likely voters in the battleground states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, conducted May 20-26, 2024, and paid for by LCV and Climate Power.
