Washington D.C. – LCV Victory Fund congratulates LCV Action Fund endorsed candidate Kyrsten Sinema on her historic win as the first openly bisexual Senator and the first woman elected to the US Senate from Arizona. LCV Victory Fund invested more than $3.7 million in the U.S. Senate race, primarily on door-to-door canvassing through the New American Jobs Fund.

“We are thrilled that Arizonans chose to send a new pro-environment champion to Congress,” said Gene Karpinski, LCV President. “We look forward to working closely with Senator-elect Kyrsten Sinema and our environmental champions in the U.S. House to protect Arizona’s treasured public lands and support its outdoor recreation economy.”

Sinema’s opponent, Martha McSally, was named to LCV Victory Fund’s notorious Dirty Dozen because of her record of siding with polluters over Arizonans. The New American Jobs Fund field program — a partnership with the United Steelworkers (USW) Works — knocked on over 550,000 doors and sent more than 400,000 pieces of mail supporting Sinema.

LCV’s GreenRoots member mobilization program also turned out voters for Sinema as part of a nationwide field program that engaged nearly 1,500 volunteers.

Environmental donors contributed nearly $400,000 to Sinema’s campaign via GiveGreen. GiveGreen — a partnership between LCV Victory Fund, NextGen America and the NRDC Action Fund PAC that helps grassroots donors directly contribute to pro-environment candidates — raised a record $21 million for the 2018 cycle.

LCV Action Fund endorsed Sinema because of her commitment to combating the climate crisis and standing up for Arizona’s air, water, and public lands. LCV Action Fund also endorsed Greg Stanton and Representative Ruben Gallego. We congratulate them on their victories.

Separately in Arizona, Chispa AZ PAC and related entities invested more than $4.2 million supporting clean energy candidates in the 2018 elections, including Sandra Kennedy and Kiana Sears for the ACC, where Kennedy is currently leading. Details on Chispa AZ PAC’s work can be found here.
