Washington D.C. – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Action Fund, which works to elect pro-environment candidates, and Latino Victory Fund, which works to elect Latino candidates, announced today their endorsement of Michelle Vallejo for election to the  U.S. House representing Texas’s 15th Congressional District.

“Michelle Vallejo will fight for every community in South Texas to have clean air, clean water, and a healthy environment, especially people in frontline communities facing the brunt of corporate polluters,” said LCV Action Fund Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Tiernan Sittenfeld. “As a small business owner and family of farm workers, immigrants, and entrepreneurs in the Rio Grande Valley, she understands what is at stake. She is committed to protecting our environment, strengthening our democracy, and building a just and equitable clean energy future for all. We are thrilled to support Michelle Vallejo’s campaign to win this competitive election, and we look forward to working with her in Washington as we continue to fight for environmental justice and a democracy that is more accessible to all.”

“Michelle Vallejo is the only Latina candidate running in the 15th District who supports issues and policies that will help South Texas families and Latinos across the country,” said Nathalie Rayes, Latino Victory Fund president and CEO. “She is a small business owner who will fight for jobs and higher wages and the daughter of immigrants who will advocate for a fair and humane immigration system. Michelle knows how critical it is for South Texas’ communities to have access to affordable, quality healthcare, a strong economy and job opportunities, affordable education, climate change action and reproductive rights, and she is a powerful voice who will become a leading voice for these issues in Congress. Latino Victory Fund is proud to support Michelle Vallejo for Congress, and we’re ready to work to ensure she makes history as the first Latina elected to represent the 15th Congressional District.”

“It’s an honor to have earned the support of LCV Action Fund and Latino Victory Fund,” said Democratic nominee for Texas’s 15th Congressional District Michelle Vallejo. “As South Texas faces more severe weather every year and is on the verge of the worst water crisis in our history, our health and our economy are taking the hit. LCV Action Fund understands that it’s crucial South Texans have a representative who will advocate for legislation that will protect our families and future. Latino Victory Fund understands how important it is for South Texas to have a working families champion in Congress and that’s why they have endorsed our pueblo-powered campaign. I look forward to making history along with LCV Action Fund and Latino Victory Fund.”

Michelle Vallejo grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and attended public schools before attending Columbia University, where she studied Political Science. She comes from a family of farm workers, immigrants, and entrepreneurs – throughout her life, Vallejo helped her dad run his restaurant, the Pulga Los Portales. Vallejo is a small business owner and co-founded the New Leaders Council STX Frontera chapter as well as Hustle + Socialize. The former helps progressive community leaders advance equity in South Texas, while Hustle + Socialize is an annual women’s entrepreneurship conference providing support for minority women in business in south Texas. She is running for Congress in support of a federal jobs guarantee program that provides union jobs while reversing the impacts of climate change, declaring a climate emergency, electrification of public transport, strengthening the EPA, and protecting underrepresented communities from facing the brunt of climate inaction.
