Washington, D.C. – In response to reports of the Trump administration moving forward to repeal a commonsense policy to combat climate change, the Clean Power Plan, League of Conservation Voters President Gene Karpinski released the following statement:

“If Scott Pruitt’s EPA wants recommendations for replacing the Clean Power Plan, here’s ours: keep it and follow the law.

“Just days after a damning report reaffirmed that Pruitt is a puppet for polluters and big corporations, he’s quietly moving forward with one of the Trump administration’s worst attacks on clean air yet. Repealing the Clean Power Plan would gut the only national limits on dangerous power plant carbon pollution, threatening our health, worsening climate change and continuing the cycle of monstrous hurricanes and wildfires that are devastating communities across the country.

“We have no doubt that a replacement will be written by Pruitt’s industry friends, falling ridiculously short of what’s needed to fight climate change and denying millions of people the right to clean air. People across the country submitted a record-breaking 8 million public comments in support of the Clean Power Plan. Our members stand ready to fight this with force.”
