In response to the Department of Interior’s announcement that it has finalized regulations for Arctic Ocean drilling, LCV Deputy Legislative Director Alex Taurel issued the following statement: 

“We thank the Interior Department for their efforts to raise standards on Arctic drilling. That said, any drilling in the Arctic would put at risk America’s most pristine ocean and our climate. President Obama has an incredible opportunity this year to expand his climate leadership by permanently protecting the Arctic Ocean from Big Oil. Taking drilling off the table forever in frontier areas like the Arctic would powerfully signal to the world that the era of ever-expanding fossil fuel development is making way for the clean energy economy we need to leave a safe world for our kids.  We hope the president will seize this opportunity.”
