Washington Passes Strongest Clean Electricity Bill in the Nation

Apr 23, 2019

The Washington State Legislature yesterday passed the strongest clean electricity bill in the nation! Washington is now the fourth state, and the first in the Northwest, to pass 100 percent clean electricity legislation, which will eliminate coal power by 2025 and transition the state to 100 percent clean and renewable electricity by 2045.

“Washington state once again showed that we can lead on climate action,” said Joan Crooks, CEO Washington Conservation Voters and Washington Environmental Council. “A big thanks to the legislature and Governor for passing the strongest clean electricity bill in the nation, proving that we can champion worker protections, equity, and reduce climate pollution all at the same time. Last year’s election established the largest environmental majority we’ve seen in a decade and this is more proof that who we elect matters.”
