Big Clean Energy Win in Maryland

Apr 9, 2019

Last night, the Maryland state legislature passed the Clean Energy Jobs Act, which would make it the 8th state committed to at least 50% clean energy by 2030. The bill now moves to the Governor’s desk for signature.

Our friends at Maryland LCV led a robust campaign including paid radio ads, a full page ad in the Capital Gazette, a digital campaign that reached over 200,000 people and hundreds of calls to key committee members that helped force the bill out of the House Economic Matters Committee and back into play the last weekend of session.

“This bill is critical to address climate change at the state level while we still can — and is all the more important since the federal government continues to take little to no action,” said Karla Raettig, Executive Director of the Maryland LCV. “Our success in moving this legislation as far as we have is thanks to grassroots efforts by concerned citizens of Maryland who recognize that now is the time to double our use of renewable energy over the next 10 years so that we can avoid the worst effects of climate change and also expand jobs, investment and tax revenue in our state.”
