GiveGreen Surpasses $10 Million Raised To Elect Climate Leaders In 2024

Jul 6, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Today, LCV Victory Fund and NRDC Action Votes announced more than $10 million has been raised and contributed for federal and state candidates through GiveGreen so far for the 2024 election cycle. These record-breaking early investments, with nearly a year and a half to go before Election Day, are a testament to voters’ enthusiasm around re-electing President Biden, Vice President Harris, and members of Congress who will continue to build off of 2022’s historic progress on climate.

In 2022, pro-climate political donors showed up for the midterm election cycle like never before, contributing over $27 million to help win key U.S. Senate, U.S. House, gubernatorial, and other down ballot races that culminated in a Green Wave of environmental champions, especially at the state level. Supported by a strong and diverse coalition of pro-climate voters and bolstered by the federal investments made possible by the Biden-Harris administration’s affordable clean energy plan, Democratic leaders across the country took historic action towards mitigating the climate crisis. Now, donors are making clear that they want to re-elect leaders who will get the job done.

“GiveGreen donors are sending a strong message straight out of the gate: we will fight for climate and environmental justice leaders in Congress and the White House,” said LCV Victory Fund President Gene Karpinski. “This early milestone reached by the GiveGreen community speaks to the strong support candidates who act on climate have from people all across the country who are benefiting from the hundreds of thousands of clean energy jobs and lower energy costs that the Biden-Harris Administration’s affordable clean energy plan made possible. Together, we will continue to elect climate champions who will fight for healthy communities and a clean energy future for all.”

“GiveGreen donors understand how important it is to join forces to defend the unprecedented progress we’re making now on clean energy and climate justice,”said Manish Bapna, president of the NRDC Action Fund. “Together, we can defeat Big Oil’s preferred candidates up and down the ballot and ensure the U.S. unlocks the jobs, equity and health benefits of a clean energy future.”

GiveGreen, the biggest single-issue progressive candidate fundraising platform, offers donors a strategic vision for supporting candidates who will take real action on climate change, and for making lasting change in our political system. It also makes supporting climate champions as convenient and impactful as possible. The $10 million contributed so far this cycle will play a critical role in defending climate and environmental champions and electing new ones.

In 2022,  climate champions who received support through GiveGreen swept the election cycle with a Green Wave, keeping the Senate and helping flip states to pro-climate trifectas. GiveGreen donors’ support will be critical to our climate champions who were re-elected by narrow margins.
