Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) offered an amendment to H.R. 2028, the Further Continuing and Security Assistance Appropriations Act, 2017, which would create a pilot program for water conservation in the Colorado River system. With climate change fueling droughts across the western United States, a new approach to water use in the Colorado basin is badly needed. On April 26, the Senate approved the Reid amendment by a vote of 73-23 (Senate roll call vote 62). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. H.R. 2028 was signed into law by President Obama on December 10.
