Senator John Hickenlooper (D-CO) sponsored an amendment to S.Con.Res. 33, the Republican Senate budget resolution, which would ensure that consumers are protected from price increases associated with tariffs and Trump’s war against Iran. Working families are suffering from skyrocketing energy costs; electricity prices have gone up 13% in the last year and gas prices have gone up 50% from the first to second quarter of 2026, with analysts expecting gas prices to remain high through the rest of 2026. In that time, the administration has blockaded deployment of affordable clean energy, held up funding for clean energy projects, and created a global energy crisis through a reckless, unauthorized war against Iran. On April 23, the Senate rejected the Hickenlooper motion to waive a point of order against his amendment by a vote of 47-51 (60 votes were needed for passage – Senate roll call vote 94).
