Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) filed a point of order to block legislation which fails to decrease home electricity bills, including S.Con.Res. 33, the Republican Senate budget resolution. Working families are suffering from skyrocketing electricity prices that have gone up 13% in the last year, and Congress could take numerous actions that would boost affordable clean energy and energy efficiency and reduce prices. Since S.Con.Res. 33 does nothing to decrease home electricity bills, this amendment would prevent Congress from advancing it or any legislation via partisan budget reconciliation that does not address these skyrocketing costs. On April 23, the Senate rejected the Markey motion to waive a point of order against his point of order by a vote of 48-50 (60 votes were needed for passage – Senate roll call vote 98). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
