Ranking Member Alex Padilla (D-CA) sponsored an amendment to H.Con.Res. 14, the Senate Budget Resolution, to reiterate the importance of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and its continued role in providing immediate and long-term relief to all disaster survivors. This amendment was offered in pushback to the Trump administration applying a political lens to FEMA and threatening to disband the agency. FEMA provides critical and immediate disaster response to communities and helps build their resilience to future severe weather events. As climate change continues to increase the frequency and exacerbate the impacts of extreme weather events across the country, the fiscally responsible decision is to support the recovery and resiliency of our communities. On April 4, the Senate rejected the Padilla amendment by a vote of 48-51 (Senate roll call vote 177). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
