Chair Mike Lee (R-UT) sponsored an amendment to H.R. 1, the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), which would hasten the phase-out of tax incentives for wind and solar energy production by shortening the already stringent timelines clean energy projects have to utilize these credits. This amendment would lead to higher energy costs for working families and massive job loss in one of the fastest-growing sectors of the economy. At a time of heightened energy demand, we should be encouraging clean energy production, the fastest and cheapest form of clean energy to deploy, not stymying it. On July 1, the Senate rejected the Lee amendment by a vote of 21-79 (Senate roll call vote 360). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The president signed H.R. 1, the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act, into law on July 4th.
