Ranking Member Ron Wyden (D-OR) sponsored a motion to commit (MTC) H.R. 1, the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), to the Committee on Finance with instructions to make needed changes to prevent electricity prices from skyrocketing due to the drastic cuts in clean energy incentives in H.R. 1. These cuts would put existing clean energy projects in jeopardy and deter clean energy additions to the grid. Under this bill, electricity prices are set to increase by 61% in 2035, resulting in energy bills for American families rising by $400 a year within the next decade. On July 1, the Senate rejected the Wyden MTC by a vote of 47-53 (Senate roll call vote 357). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The president signed H.R. 1, the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act, into law on July 4th.
