The Senate considered President Biden’s nomination of J. Michelle Childs to serve as a Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The D.C. Circuit is frequently called the nation’s second-most powerful court due to its unique jurisdiction that includes review of regulatory agency actions, such as those of the Environmental Protection Agency. Federal judges serve for life and environmental laws are only as strong as the judges who uphold them. Judge Childs served with integrity and distinction as a United States District Judge for the District of South Carolina and a South Carolina Circuit Judge for the Fifth Judicial Circuit. Childs is only the fourth Black woman ever to serve on the D.C. Circuit even though nearly half the people who live in the District of Columbia are Black. On July 20, the Senate confirmed Childs to be a Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit by a vote of 64-34 (Senate Roll Call Vote 260). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
