The Senate considered President Joe Biden’s nomination of Lauren McGarity McFerran to be a member of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The NLRB is the nation’s principal agency charged with protecting the rights of workers to organize and advocate for improved working conditions and safety. Environmental protection and labor rights are inextricably linked by the need for a healthy democracy that empowers people to hold powerful business interests accountable. McFerran’s long tenure on the NLRB and distinguished career in public service demonstrate her qualifications and commitment to fairness. If confirmed, her reappointment would have secured a pro-worker majority on the NLRB until 2026. On December 11, the Senate failed to invoke cloture on McFerran’s confirmation by a vote of 49-50 (Senate roll call vote 320). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
