Issues
Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) offered an amendment to S.Con.Res.14, the Budget Resolution for FY22, that would prohibit the EPA and the Council on Environmental Quality from implementing safeguards to protect public health and the environment from the harmful impacts of fracking. For too long, the oil and gas industry has been given free rein to pollute our air, water, and lands without having to abide by our bedrock environmental laws or meet the most basic transparency requirements. These loopholes jeopardize the health of the estimated 12.6 million people living within a half mile of an active oil and gas well, compressor, or processor, and allow the industry to release massive amounts of methane, which is a potent greenhouse gas that is contributing to climate change. On August 10, the Senate approved the Cramer amendment by a vote of 57-42 (Senate roll call vote 323). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
