Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO) offered an amendment to H.R. 6395, the William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021, which would add the text of H.R. 2546, the Protecting America’s Wilderness (PAW) Act into the bill. The PAW Act would protect 1.37 million acres of public lands and waters and enhance access to green spaces in California, Colorado, and Washington, preserving majestic landscapes and rivers for future generations, protecting tribal lands and cultural sites from oil and gas development, improving access to public lands for underserved communities, addressing the threats of climate change by increasing wildfire resiliency, and promoting our country’s thriving outdoor recreation economy. On July 21, the House approved the DeGette amendment by a vote of 234-179 (House roll call vote 146). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
