Representative Glenn Thompson (R-PA) sponsored H.R. 7567, the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, also known as the Farm Bill, which would undermine conservation and forest management, public health, community safety and states’ rights while doing little to help America’s farmers confront their biggest challenges, especially rising costs. This bill would cut $1 billion from the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), which helps farmers engage in conservation practices; make dangerous changes to NEPA, ESA, and NHPA that prioritize the logging industry and increase wildfire risk while endangering wildlife and ecosystems; and prevent state and local regulation of big corporate animal factories (CAFOs), overriding important food safety, environmental, and welfare standards. The bill would also fail to address the damaging cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program made by H.R. 1 at a time when families are struggling to put food on the table. On April 30, the House approved H.R. 7567 by a vote of 224-200 (House roll call vote 154). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
