Representative Paul Gosar (R-AZ) offered an amendment to H.R. 6147, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2019, which would open the Ironwood Forest National Monument to mining and drilling and prevent the Interior Department from properly protecting the land. This amendment threatens the forests, rare wildlife, archeological sites, and other aspects of the monument, despite the wishes of local stakeholders. On July 18, the House rejected the Gosar amendment by a vote of 193-220 (House roll call vote 355). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
