Representative Nicholas Langworthy (R-NY) sponsored H.R. 4690, the so-called Reliable Federal Infrastructure Act, which would undermine key progress towards cleaner and cost-saving federal buildings. It would drop requirements to phase down fossil fuel use for new and substantially renovated federal buildings, allow buildings to have green certifications even if they use fossil fuels, and require the Department of Energy to replace existing efficiency standards with weakened standards. This bill would keep federal buildings reliant on dirty and expensive fossil fuels, and weaken the government’s ability to cut energy waste and reduce taxpayer-funded operating costs with cleaner, more efficient infrastructure. On April 22, the House approved H.R. 4690 by a vote of 215-202 (House roll call vote 134). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
