House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas (R-OK) sponsored H.R. 2642, the Farm Bill known as the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act of 2013. This extreme legislation would make permanent deep cuts to conservation programs; weaken protections for our forests, wetlands and wildlife; eviscerate regulation of pesticides; zero out mandatory funding for rural renewable energy and efficiency development; and block states from setting standards for food and farm production. Moreover, by crippling and ultimately ending key conservation programs, H.R. 2642 would deprive farmers of the tools they need to deal with extreme weather that is being fueled by climate change. On July 11, the House passed H.R. 2642 by a vote of 216-208 (House roll call vote 353). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
