Representative George Holding (R-NC) sponsored H.R. 2804, the Achieving Less Excess in Regulation and Requiring Transparency (ALERRT) Act of 2014, which would undermine our nation’s ability to set health, safety and environmental standards. Specifically, H.R. 2804 would add a six-month delay to most rules essential to protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the American public, and it would force agencies to engage in a “race to the bottom” to pick the rule that is least costly to industry rather than the rule that will best protect public health. H.R. 2804 mandates wasteful new analyses that hold up life-saving agency actions and weakens the ability of citizens to prod agencies to follow the law. On February 27, the House approved H.R. 2804 by a vote of 236-179 (House roll call vote 78). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The Senate took no action on this legislation.
