Representative Craig Goldman (R-TX) sponsored H.J.Res. 75, a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution of disapproval, which would repeal the Department of Energy’s (DOE) energy conservation standards for commercial refrigerators, freezers, and refrigerator-freezers. The CRA is an extreme and blunt tool that is being used by anti-environmental members of Congress who want to permanently strip away protections for our environment, communities, wildlife, and natural heritage. This resolution would block new money-saving efficiency standards, force customers to rely on outdated, inefficient technology, and stall innovation towards better, more efficient products. Appliance efficiency standards save families and businesses hundreds of dollars, relieve stress on the energy grid, support an industry that employs millions of people in nearly every county, and lead to improved air quality and public health in communities disproportionately impacted by air pollution. On March 27, the House approved H.J.Res. 75 by a vote of 214-193. (House roll call vote 78) NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The Senate passed an identical resolution on May 1 and the president signed it into law on May 9.
