Representative Peter Stauber (R-MN) sponsored H.R. 4090, the Critical Mineral Dominance Act, a bill which would codify the Trump administration’s mining executive orders that prioritize extraction and expedite mining projects while removing environmental review and weakening public lands protections. The bill ignores carefully-studied mining process recommendations from the Department of the Interior in 2023, particularly the recommendation that our public land agencies be fully staffed and funded. Instead it would make it even easier to sell off our public lands to polluting foreign mining companies and cause irreversible harm, while doing nothing to block the administration’s attempts to ban clean energy, the supposed driver of more mining. On February 4, the House approved H.R. 4090 by a vote of 224-195 (House roll call vote 55). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
