Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) offered an amendment to H.R.4899, the Lowering Gasoline Prices to Fuel an America That Works Act of 2014, which would require companies to renegotiate leases that require no payment of royalties to the United States before bidding on new leases authorized by the underlying bill. This amendment closes a key royalty payment loophole and would save taxpayers billions of dollars. On June 26, the House rejected the Blumenauer amendment by a vote of 179-229 (House roll call vote 364). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
