Representative Rick Allen (R-GA) sponsored H.R. 4626, the so-called Don’t Mess With My Home Appliances Act which would push the Department of Energy to weaken or revoke existing cost-saving appliance standards. Energy efficiency standards have saved families over $600 per year over the last decade and are poised to deliver even more savings as energy costs skyrocket. The bill would also block states from filling the void with their own efficiency standards if federal standards are eliminated. This legislation would increase utility bills for families and create uncertainty for U.S. manufacturers. On February 24, the House approved H.R. 4626 by a vote of 217-190 (House roll call vote 76). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
