Representative Rush Holt (D-NJ) offered an amendment to H.R. 4315, the Endangered Species Transparency and Reasonableness Act, which would remove the requirement in the underlying bill that causes data submitted by state, county, or tribal governments, whether by experts or not, to supersede that offered by the federal government and be considered the “best scientific and commercial data available.” This underlying requirement would undermine the federal government’s ability to use the best data when assessing a given project’s environmental impact. On July 29, the Holt amendment was defeated by a vote of 204-215 (House roll call vote 461). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
