Representative August Pfluger (R-TX) sponsored H.R. 1949, the so-called Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2025, which would undermine the federal government’s current responsibility to examine the full impacts of liquefied methane gas (otherwise known as liquefied natural gas or LNG) expansion on U.S. energy markets, the environment, local communities, and consumers. Specifically, this bill would strip the federal government’s ability and responsibility to analyze the impacts of LNG to climate disruption, volatile energy prices, and continued health and safety impacts, particularly for frontline communities. On November 20, the House approved H.R. 1949 by a vote of 217-188 (House roll call vote 304). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The Senate took no action on this legislation in 2025.
