Representative Jeff Miller (R-FL) sponsored H.R. 2954, the Public Access and Lands Improvement Act, which would promote harmful logging and greatly hinder the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service in their implementation of conservation strategies that protect threatened species. The legislation includes provisions that would undermine conservation protections at Cape Hatteras National Seashore and obstruct reviews of grazing leases that are critical in protecting imperiled species such as the greater sage-grouse. It also requires harmful salvage logging on over 150,000 acres of the Stanislaus National Forest, which was impacted by the California Rim Fire, and impedes the public’s ability to seek administrative and judicial review. On February 6, the House approved H.R. 2954 by a vote of 220-194 (House roll call vote 54). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The Senate took no action on this legislation.
