Representative Michael K. Simpson (R-ID) sponsored H.R. 5055, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2017, which would cut funding for clean energy research and contained a slew of poison-pill policy riders that would harm the environment. One rider would have blocked the Clean Water Rule, which protects the drinking water of one in three Americans. Another would have undermined the National Ocean Policy. Several others would undercut the Endangered Species Act and undermine environmental protections for California’s rivers and fisheries. On May 26, the House rejected H.R. 5055 by a vote of 112-305 (House roll call vote 266). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
