Representative Alan Lowenthal (D-CA) offered an amendment to H.R. 5538, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2017, which would prohibit using funds in contravention of a Department of Interior order calling for the development of clean energy on public lands. Public lands represent a significant resource for wind and solar development, which we must expand to fight climate change. On July 14, the House rejected the Lowenthal amendment by a vote of 192-233 (House roll call vote 471). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The House passed H.R. 5538 on July 14, but the Senate took no action on this legislation.
