Representative Niki Tsongas (D-MA) offered an amendment to H.R. 5538, the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2017, which would prohibit the Bureau of Land Management’s management plans from taking effect if they limit the bureau’s ability to meet multiple use obligations, a measure that would protect plans to conserve the threatened sage grouse’s habitat across the western United States. On July 14, the House rejected the Tsongas amendment by a vote of 184-241 (House roll call vote 474). YES IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The House passed H.R. 5538 on July 14, but the Senate took no action on this legislation.
