The House took up this amendment as part of the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2024 (H.R. 4821). This amendment would block funding toward the Biden Administration’s America the Beautiful initiative of conserving 30% of the nation’s lands and waters by 2030. Secretary Haaland states that the America the Beautiful initiative “reflects an inherently pragmatic approach that puts people at the center and outlines an inclusive and collaborative vision where locally led efforts to conserve, steward, and restore lands and waters will help us reach our shared goals.” On November 2, 2023, the House approved Rep. Fulcher’s (R-ID) amendment by a vote of 212-202 (House Roll Call Number 581). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE. The House passed H.R.4821 on November 3. The Senate did not pass an Interior, Environment and Related Agencies Appropriations bill in 2023.
