Representative Jefferson Van Drew (R-NJ) sponsored this amendment to H.R. 1, to require the Comptroller General to conduct a study to assess the sufficiency of the environmental review processes for offshore wind projects. This bad faith amendment implies that there have been insufficient environmental reviews for offshore wind projects, when the truth is that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is already required to perform substantial environmental reviews. This unnecessary and duplicative study is simply meant to slow the deployment of a critical clean energy technology and delay the transition away from dirty fossil fuels to the affordable clean energy economy. On March 30, 2023, the House approved Rep. Van Drew’s amendment to H.R. 1 by a vote of 220-213 (House roll call vote 180). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
