Representative Jeff Duncan (R-SC) sponsored H.R. 1121, the so-called Protecting American Energy Production Act, which would prioritize the interests of the oil and gas industry over clean air, water, and a healthy environment for our families. The billwould prohibit the president from declaring a moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing unless Congress authorizes the moratorium. Since there are currently no plans to put a moratorium on the use of hydraulic fracturing, this legislation is designed to restrain the president’s ability to protect our communities from oil and gas pollution and demonstrates a willingness to prioritize Big Polluters over our public health. On March 20, the House approved H.R. 1121 by a vote of 229-188, (House roll call vote 93). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
