The House took up this amendment as part of the Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2024 (H.R. 4821). This amendment would block the implementation of Public Land Order No. 7923, which established a 20-year withdrawal of federal lands within 10 miles of the Chaco Culture National Historic Park from new oil and gas leasing. This withdrawal was established to at the request of a coalition of Tribal governments, including the Hopi Tribe and the All Pueblo Council of Governors, to ensure the protections of the irreplaceable cultural, historic, and natural resources vulnerable to oil and gas development in the region. On November 2, 2023, the House rejected Rep. Crane’s (R-AZ) amendment by a vote of 191-219 (House Roll Call Number 580). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
