Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) sponsored an amendment to H.R. 8752, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act, 2025, which would prohibit funding for the Department of Homeland Security’s process entitled “Process to Promote the Unity and Stability of Families.” Advancing environmental justice requires a healthy democracy and immigration policies that respect the dignity and humanity of the people and communities most impacted by the climate crisis. This amendment would block humane action to keep families together and ensure hundreds of thousands of children and spouses of U.S. citizens can access their legal pathway to residency without threat of deportation. On June 26, the House rejected the Roy amendment by a vote of 193-216 (House roll call vote 293). NO IS THE PRO-ENVIRONMENT VOTE.
